Marina Morning - Iconic Vashon - oil on canvas - 24”x18” -2024

The water was like glass when I started this painting around 6am.  The recreational marina at Dockton was established in the 1950s and hints at the nautical legacy of Dockton being as a ship building center. The Puget Sound Dry Dock Company was there from 1892 to 1909; largest on the West Coast. Other ship building companies functioned on a smaller scale at Dockton until 1929. Boat launchings did not always go well.  The Florence J. rolled over and sank on the first launching attempt in 1914
